Monday Mixtape: A Traveler’s Playlist
In between activities planned for the duration of the trip, there are moments when you put your headphones on and get lost in your songs. While I’m not the type to listen to music while hiking or absorbing the views, I seek comfort in my music during plane rides, a night in a strange room, a boring three-hour boat ride to an island, or a long commute from one city to another.
Such moments call for a playlist of dream & synth pop, ambient, and electronic, leaving my usual alternative rock playlist forgotten. I like the quiet, dreamy music, or what zen-like song allows me to take in the views.
Starting with alternative and old-school rock, most likely on an early morning plane ride
Collide by Howie Day
Just Like Heaven by The Cure
Or ambient songs in case of land travel on a highway with majestic views of the Cordilleras
Wake Me by Message to Bears
A Walk by Tycho
Mountains by Message to Bears
Going upbeat during a difficult commute from a distant paradise
Find You by Zedd
Or what lulls to sleep, fast, on a nauseating ride back to the city
Festival by Sigur Ros
Listening to a bit of anti-folk with a super cute lyrics
Tree Hugger by Antsy Pants
Or a super cute summerwave with hardly any lyrics
