Happy International Coffee Day!

Perk up, everyone! Today, September 29, we celebrate International Coffee Day. It is an annual event for the celebration and enjoyment of “coffee.” This day is also used to raise awareness for the plight of coffee growers and to promote fair trade coffee.

Many countries participate in this event, including our very own, Philippines. But we celebrate National Coffee Day on October 21, to showcase Lipa City in Batangas as the longstanding “Coffee Granary of the Philippines.”

International Coffee Day was first promoted in Japan and celebrated in 1983. The name “International Coffee Day” originates from the National Coffee Day in the United States. Since then, other countries such as China, Taiwan, Indonesia, etc., celebrate this event annually on different dates.

No matter how your day goes today, don’t forget to grab a cup of coffee and enjoy every sip of it. There are some coffee chains participating in this event, like Dunkin’ Donuts. They offer a free medium hot or iced coffee today (while supplies last) with any classic dozen donut purchase in honor of the brand’s first Global Coffee Day celebration. So, what are you waiting for? Go to the nearest Dunkin’ Donuts branch near you!

To all the coffee lovers, even the not-so ones, out there, this is the time for us to unite and laud our very dedicated coffee growers around the world. Let us be one in appreciating their hard work to give us the best tasting coffee and to support the fair trade organizations for better trade conditions to coffee growers.
