Weekend Workaholic: How to Earn Extra Income on Your Off Days

Garage Sale

Most people think that the weekend is when you should relax and take a break from work. Contrary to this, this is also the time when you can get extra income to reach your financial goals. You can take a break and use most of the weekend to form other sources of income.

If you’re up for this challenge, here are some options you can use to get extra income during weekends.

1. Hold a Garage Sale

This strategy can give you two benefits: earning extra money and de-cluttering your house.

You can sell unused items in your house to make extra money during the weekends. Check if there’s anything you haven’t used in the last 6 months (excluding seasonal items like Christmas decor). Price them based on their condition.

Place announcements on social media and online free listings such as Craigslist and promo blog site so you can have people know that you are having a garage sale. Tell your friends and family about it so they can share this with their network.

2. Tutor Students

Look for foreign students who need tutoring in subjects such as English and Math in your neighborhood. It will be helpful if you find students within a walking distance from your residence so you do not have to spend on meals and travel expenses just to get to their houses.

This is also applicable if you know parents who are looking for tutors for their kids (which ranges from elementary to college level).

Ask for referrals from your friends and family. You can also apply as a freelance tutor to websites such as 51 Talk so you do not have to leave your house to earn extra income.

3. Babysit for Neighbors

This is not a common source of income in the Philippines but if you ask around, there are many couples who do not have a house help that want a vacation without the kids to just relax.

One of the keys to success here is that if you already know the kids you’ll take care of, the parents will be more at ease to trust their kids with you and the kids will be more cooperative while you’re their guardian for the weekend.

4. Run Errands for Others

You can also ride the upsurge of on-call errand runners through apps such as Hey Kuya and Aling Nena. This can be through buying some items for other people at the grocery store which is also on your way to work or be a helping hand just for the day to an event.

You can look at various Facebook Groups for postings on immediate part-time job openings which you won’t see at job boards so you can reach out to them and see how you can help these people out.

These are just some suggestions on how you can get extra income. Just remember that the amount you will get from these will depend on the effort you put on each task.

How ’bout uber or grabcar for those who has cars? I think that is also a great way to earn extra income. I just don’t know how you could be part of it. Anyone who knows how?
